Brynleigh Yewsuk

STARS Very Important Patient

Brynleigh Yewsuk was just three years old when a piece of farm equipment fell on her head. With multiple skull fractures, her injuries were life threatening. Thankfully, a STARS air medical crew was able to provide timely critical care and rush her to a hospital for additional treatment.

Brynleigh faced numerous challenges through her recovery. Initially, she had to use the support of a walker and had to wear protective head gear while her skull recovered. But with every passing year Brynleigh has continued to grow stronger.

Now 11 years old, Brynleigh is currently thriving at her school in Melville, where she is a member of multiple sports teams, including cross country, para hockey, and wheelchair basketball.

Brynleigh’s whole family continues to be incredibly grateful for the care that STARS provided that day. “Yes, we have a hospital, but ... in situations like Brynleigh’s, you need more specialized care, and you have to be able to get to those larger communities quickly in crucial times,” said Brynleigh’s mother, Marcy. “We all support STARS in any way we can because STARS is the reason Brynleigh is still here.”
